Common Circuits: Hacking Alternative Technological Futures

Keynote SeaGL 2026

How did we build community for, with, and around FOSS technologies? Why does community-building matter now more than ever? In this talk, I will present a book project where I respond to these questions. As I will demonstrate, one of the most powerful things we accomplished as a community was to build common circuits for the circulation of people, projects, and technologies that played an “infrastructural” role. Given the infrastructural nature of FOSS projects, they have become not only invisible but also vulnerable to all sorts of enclosures (including the newest ones with the rise of commercial AI). Join me in this talk to discuss how we can respond to the present technopolitical challenges and thrive as a collective of FOSS collectives.
