Using Debian-Linux Desktop GUI since 2003: a user tour
I have high demands for my private computing! Data privacy, control over my CPU usage, fast performance on old hardware, and organized retrieval of uncountable local research notes for fiction and non-fiction writing. I am not a developer, and rarely use the command line, but I know what I am doing, and know my limits. Here is one way to be a user of a Linux desktop environment.
Advanced user? Configuration meddler? A long time user shares typical workflow and file-management for practically all-local data. Writing, layout, graphics, and archiving research topics; typical uses. This is a simple tour of a Debian user’s ‘every-day-drivers’. LibreOffice, Emacs org-mode, Thunar, Meld, XFCE, Thunderbird, Evolution, Calibre, Dino, Firefox, FoxtrotGPS, KeePass, Gramps, Osmo, Filezilla, VLC, Scribus, Blender, GIMP, Xournal, Qalculate, AisleRiot. Fish (and like that)
